Q: How long you’ve been a graphic designer at Zyxel?
Zsa: It will be six awesome years this May.

Q: Where did you graduate?
Zsa: I got my B.A. from UCLA and then a design degree from a post-baccalaureate program at FIDM.

Q: What initially sparked your interest in graphic design, and how did you begin your journey in this field?
Zsa: My interest in graphic design was sparked by my very first introductory course in high school. After design school, I freelanced for several action sports companies designing apparel graphics, packaging, and various marketing collateral.  I also worked for a non-profit where I redesigned and managed their website/social media and designed artwork for fund development campaigns.

Q: Describe your role at Zyxel
Zsa: At Zyxel, I am responsible for creating marketing collateral from visual assets to promotional and informational material.

Q: What aspect of being a designer at Zyxel do you enjoy the most?
Zsa: The work itself is enjoyable along with the supportive environment. I was able to improve my skills and grow as a designer with a wonderful team.

Q: What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
Zsa: I was a competitive rock climber throughout college and a few years after. And am still an avid rock climber.

Q: Could you walk us through your creative process when starting a new project?
Zsa: When given a new project, I begin with the organization of content — figuring out the most logical way to present the information. Then, I brainstorm graphic elements and/or images that would represent and magnify the written content. Assembly comes next to create good flow and visual appeal. Finally, refinement of details.

Q: What do you find most challenging about being a graphic designer, and how do you overcome these challenges?
Zsa: One of the most challenging aspects of being a designer is creative block. When instances like that arise, I’ve learned that shifting focus to another project can refresh my mind and stir up new ideas.
